Paper Tear Wipe

  peak · number

  Where the tear is at its widest mid-flight, as a fraction of the clip. The rip runs across the sheet in the frames just before it and both halves are off screen by the end. Over footage, put your cut about half a second into the clip, under the whole sheet.

• Direction

  direction · "horizontal" | "vertical" | "diagonal"

  Which way the rip runs. horizontal splits the frame into a top and a bottom half, vertical into left and right, diagonal runs from the lower left to the upper right and is the most dynamic.

• Roughness

  roughness · number

  How ragged the torn edge is. 0 is a clean, gently wandering tear, 1 is a coarse, fibrous rip with long loose fibres. 0.4 to 0.7 reads as real paper.

• Stage

  Draw the stand-in scenes: a scrapbook page printed on the sheet and a kraft craft table underneath. Turn it off to lay the effect over your own cut: the sheet becomes plain dotted paper that fades in over your outgoing shot and tears away to reveal the next one.

  Paint the brand ground behind everything. Off keeps the background transparent, which is what you want over footage.

  Brand token id, one of the keys of BRANDS. Light paper brands (notebook, linen, press) are what a torn sheet is made of.
