Minimal Lower Captions

Everything below can be changed without touching the animation. Hand the list to an agent, or edit the values at the bottom of the component file.

  srt · string

  Paste an SRT or WebVTT file's text. When it has cues it replaces `words`. Words inside a cue share its time by their length, so exact per-word timings belong in `words`. A transcript longer than the clip plays as far as the clip runs (8 seconds by default) and stops there.

• Words

  words · array

  Timed words in seconds, exactly as a transcription tool exports them (Descript, Premiere, Whisper and similar). Used when `srt` is empty. The default is a 22-word podcast line about a listener survey.

• Max words

  maxWords · number

  The most words on screen at once. A phrase also ends early at a full stop, a new cue or a pause, so 8 gives one natural spoken phrase per line. Drop to 4 or 5 for a quicker, choppier read.

• Emphasis

  emphasis · array

  Words set in the accent colour, matched ignoring case and punctuation. Keep it to the figure or name a viewer should take away from each line: this style is quiet, and every accent spends some of that.

• Position

  position · "lower" | "center" | "upper"

  Where the line sits. lower is the subtitle position: inside title safe at 16:9, and above the platform's caption and button area at 9:16. Use upper when your footage already has a name strap or a chart at the bottom.

• Highlight word

  highlightWord · boolean

  Softly dim every word except the one being said. Off by default, because this style is for viewers who read the line rather than follow it word by word.

• Tone

  tone · "brand" | "inverse"

  brand sets the brand's ink on a soft wash of its paper colour, which suits bright rooms and daylight footage. inverse swaps the two, paper-coloured type on a wash of ink, for dim studios and night footage.

• Scrim

  scrim · number

  Strength of the soft wash behind the line, in percent. It is what keeps the words readable over a busy shot: 40 is enough over a plain wall, 75 over a patterned set, 0 turns it off.

• Hairline

  hairline · boolean

  A one-pixel rule under the line, sized to it, like a printed caption. Turn it off for the barest look.

• Size

  size · number

  Type size relative to the default, which is kept modest on purpose: about 7.25% of the frame's short side at 16:9 and 8.25% at 9:16, readable on a phone either way. Long phrases still shrink or wrap to stay inside title safe at any size.

• Stage

  Draw the stand-in podcast studio behind the captions, so the preview shows them over a real picture. It is demo backing, not part of the captions: switch it off when you put them over your own video.

  Paint a plain brand ground behind the captions when the studio is off. Leave it off to get a transparent background for your editor.
