What you can change — 8 settings

Everything below can be changed without touching the animation. Hand the list to an agent, or edit the values at the bottom of the component file.

  • Flag
    flag · string

The word in the solid colour block at the head of the rail. One word, set in caps whatever you type — BREAKING, LIVE, UPDATE, the name of your show. Empty removes the block and the headlines run the full width.

    now: BREAKING

  • Items *
    items · array

The headlines, in order, running right to left. Keep each under about 55 characters: that is what guarantees a whole one is legible on screen at any moment, including in the still that becomes your thumbnail.

    now: 4 items

  • Edge
    edge · "bottom" | "top"

Which edge the rail is welded to. Bottom is the news convention and leaves the upper frame to the presenter; top is for when your own subtitles already own the floor.

    now: bottom

  • Pace
    pace · number

Crawl speed. 1 is broadcast pace — a headline of normal length is fully on screen for about five seconds. Below 0.6 it reads as stalled; above 1.6 nobody finishes a sentence.

    now: 1

  • Inset
    inset · number

Gap between the rail and the frame edge, as a fraction of the frame height. 0 welds it flush the way broadcast does; the default lifts it clear of the player's own scrubber and timestamp.

    now: 0.05

  • Scale
    scale · number

Height of the rail and the type on it. Raise it for a 9:16 cut, where a rail sized for a 16:9 frame reads as a hairline.

    now: 1

  • Ground
    ground · boolean

Paint the frame behind the rail. Off by default — this is an overlay, so it renders with an alpha channel and drops straight onto your own footage. On, it gets a newsprint field to stand up against on its own.

    now: true

  • Brand
    brand · string

Brand token id — one of the keys of BRANDS.

    now: press

Prompt

I want a proper news ticker for the bottom of my videos — a red BREAKING block on the left and my headlines crawling past it right to left, separated by little diamonds, on an off-white newsprint bar with black serif type. The important bit is the loop: every cheap one I have tried jumps when it starts over and it drives me mad, so the wrap has to be genuinely invisible. It should slide up from the bottom edge, run for about eight seconds and slide back out, and it has to be transparent behind so I can lay it over my footage in Premiere.
