• Lead *

  lead · string

  The words that assemble before the cut, in the order they are spoken. Two to four words; each one costs five frames to arrive, so five words push the cut past the middle of the clip. Set it the way it is said: sentence case, no punctuation.

• Payoff *

  payoff · string

  The words revealed at the cut, set in the accent colour. This is what the question is about, so keep it to one or two words. A trailing question mark reads best as its own word, 'online ?', which is how the reference spaces it.

• Punch scale

  punchScale · number

  How much bigger the type is after the cut. 3.1 is the reference. Below about 2 the cut reads as a mistake rather than as emphasis; above 4 the lead words are gone and only the payoff is left, which is a different device.

• Stagger

  stagger · number

  Frames between one word starting to arrive and the next, at 30fps. 5 is the reference and reads as speech. Above 8 the line assembles slower than anyone says it.

• Arcs

  arcs · "both" | "first" | "second" | "none"

  Which of the two travelling arcs to draw. 'first' is the one in the top-left, in the brand's third mark colour; 'second' is the one down the right-hand edge, in the second accent. They are decoration and carry no meaning, which is why they are never in the accent colour.

  brand · string

  Brand token id, one of the keys of BRANDS. 'frost' is the near-white ground this style is known for; 'sky' is the same family on pale blue, and 'paper' and 'field' also work.
